A Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) allows recent graduates of an Australian Institution to live and work in Australia temporarily from 18 Months up to 4 years, depending on your circumstances. If you plan to migrate to Australia permanently this is an avenue worth exploring.

There are two routes that you can go through to apply for a 485 visa;

• The graduate work stream – for graduates in an Australian Institution that have a qualification that is related to a profession on the Skilled Occupation List. This skilled visa can be up to 18 months.
• Post study work stream – for an international student that applied for and were granted their first student visa to migrate to Australia on or after the 5^th of November 2011. This skilled visa can be granted for up to four years.

Whichever route you decide to take the main criteria as stated by the Australian Immigration Department is;

• You must be under the age of 50 years’ old
• Are currently in Australia and hold a valid visa
• You must have studied a minimum of 2 years in an Australian Institution
• Have recently graduated with a relevant qualification that relates to the skilled occupation list
• Competent in English

Once granted a 485 visa you will have no working restrictions.

The 485 visa also takes into consideration eligible family members to join you and migrate to Australia, such as your spouse and dependents, also with no working limitations.
